► (1871-1919) Político comunista alemán. Fue uno de los creadores del movimiento socialista juvenil alemán. Fundó con Rosa Luxemburg la Liga Espartaquista (bolchevique).

Líder socialista alemán. Hijo de Wilhelm Liebknecht, se convirtió en abogado y marxista. En 1912 se integró al Reichstag y encabezó la oposición a la política de Alemania antes de la primera guerra mundial. En 1916 fue expulsado del Partido Socialdemócrata de Alemania (SPD) por oponerse a su liderazgo y entró en estrecha alianza con Rosa Luxemburgo, con quien fundó el grupo de los espartaquistas. Fue arrestado (1916–18) por propugnar el derrocamiento del gobierno. En 1918 cumplió un destacado papel en la formación del Partido Comunista Alemán. Una serie de sangrientos enfrentamientos culminaron en el golpe de Estado de enero de 1919, en el que recurrió a la fuerza; lo mataron con el pretexto de que estaba intentando escapar al arresto.
